Symptoms & Risk Factors

Diabetes means having too much sugar in your blood. Your body changes the food you eat into sugar. Sugar enters the bloodstream and is delivered to all your body cells. In turn, body cells use blood sugar for energy.

People with diabetes cannot get blood sugar into their body cells and, as a result, the blood sugar builds up. Over time, high blood sugar can damage the heart, arteries, eyes, nerves and kidneys, leading to serious health problems.

  • Thirst.
  • Excessive urination.
