Tumor Board
The tumor board conferences are held weekly at Stevens Hospital. These weekly conferences bring together primary care physicians, surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, radiologists and other health professionals to discuss selected patient' care and treatment.
In 2007, 224 cases were discussed (nearly 45 percent of our annual cases for 2007). The primary objective of the tumor board conference is to provide the most beneficial options and recommendations for further treatment of patients.
The conferences also serve as an educational forum for the medical staff and other health professionals. Case presentation includes the patient’s medical history, clinical findings, diagnostic studies, therapy modalities and research data. Treatment recommendations are established during the conference, and then submitted by the tumor registrar, to each physician involved in the patient’s care.
Tumor board conferences are a valuable tool for Stevens' medical professionals and an added benefit to patients who gain from having the entire cancer team consulting on their cases.
